Re: Cork vs Screw Cap

What about glass corks on some decanters? Are these corks airtight and how do you feel about these in general? Can't be 100% certain on this but I would assume that they are not airtight, as pulling two bits of glass apart is quite difficult and if the temperature inside the bottle is hotter than r...

New project idea

I stumbled upon this site: http://www.coffinails.com I was researching the legality and methods of growing my own tobacco... turns out in Australia it's an annoying thing to start doing... For one, you need a permit to grow tobacco. Secondly, you need to declare to the tax department how much you've...

Re: Happy New Year!

Last night was a mad frolic. While I was at my friends place, apparently some guy at a bar deployed an army smoke grenade at midnight and the entire bar had to be evacuated after that! A part of me wishes I had witnessed this event. What an opportune moment to do that. :poppin: Not very wise though...

Re: Cork vs Screw Cap

After re-reading all the arguments here, and they are all excellent I might add, I think we need to distinguish between the liquids being contained. We now know the flavours a 'corked' bottle of wine might inherit influence our choice, but what of Rum and Whiskeys, or other spirits? Can the taste be...

Re: Forum feature, ranking

I'm not sure if post count is the way to go... we don't want post whoring... we want quality posts...

Perhaps this could just be something that is awarded for contribution to the site manually, rather than automatically?

Re: Absinthe

Great thread reviver... well done :) Excuse my lack of knowledge, but why exactly is absinthe illegal in the states? Is there some particular ingredient in it or is the alcohol content too high? I've had it once when I was younger, I do not recall the brand, I only know that it was extremely hard to...

Re: What would you like to see?

Just 2 things so far...
-A quick reply section at the bottom of each page
- A ranking system with possibly some monarchy-style names, or something else full of pomp. Ie. Count, Lord, Earl, Duke, Squire, Knight etc

Cigars - Where to begin?

Let me be the first to make one thing clear. I know absolutely nothing about cigars, the only ones I've ever had were when I'd just started smoking about 10 years ago, and the occasional one passed around at a party... Asking me which ones they were is a moot question as I simply didn't pay attentio...

Yes this is true. Nothing happens to the whiskey once bottled, however, a 50 year old bottle, aged 25 years, would still be a fantastic gift for someone and they would be more appreciative of it.

You could always save it for their 25th birthday and it'll be 50 years young.

The synthetic cork is, I find, much like Eliza Doolittle; a gravelly slut of a flower girl posing with a refined accent in a new dress and a few pointers in etiquette. Functional but inherently disingenuous. I will admit it has one distinct positive attribute and that is the relative ease and accur...

I prefer cork... purely and simply because I find that cork gives a nicer taste to the wine. I'm not sure of the exact process, but I guess it gives its own flavour up to the bouquet. While twist tops are a grand idea for many reasons, mainly practicality, I still think there's something more elegan...

Johnny Walker explained

Greetings everyone. I thought as my first post I would create a short and sweet thread explaining what the difference between all the Johnny Walker colours are... Unfortunately I do not have any of them with me at the moment to give you any accurate account as to their flavours, textures, and after ...
