Re: Rating system

Very well Count. The categories of White, Gold, and Dark, are a good beginning. The category of White is pretty clear (no pun intended) although there are a number of distinctions to be made within that set. We shall address those at a later date. For know, I may suggest that Gold be defined by an ag...

Re: Rating system

Count, As we have some history here, I shall be blunt. You have unvieled a weakness in your subjective tatse preferences. Not in your rating system. Indeed you need to review and rate inside a category. That you enjoy and percieve aged rum as better is perfectly fine with me. However, you need to be...

Re: Rum From Seven Fathoms Deep

Being ever the cynic, I cannot help but look at this as being a bit of a "stunt" rum. The effects of temperature (either in extremes or constants) and kinetic motion has long been known in the ageing of beer, wine and spirits. Think of the history of India Pale Ale, Port and Sherry, and Cognac. Mode...

Aguardiente

This spirit spans the diaspora from Spain to South America. The raw material ranges from grape skins to sugar cane.

I was mucking about with some of the Spanish style, and we held a typical Galician themed meal ending as described here . It certainly got the party rolling!

Re: Single Malt age statements

I just had a funny thought. Could Rhum Agricole made by a single distillery be called Single Agricole ? Would these Single XXX rules/descriptions also apply to Cachaça if they were used to describe rum products? I doubt that the term single would be allowed inside the AOC Martinique marque, But I s...

Re: Review: Rhum Barbancourt Réserve Spéciale 8 Years

This might exclude at least some of their production from being defined as "Agricole", would it not? Well I suppose it would then and now I can understand the controversy. A little hard to decide if it is Agricole or not when and if they use both juice and syrup. Can't blame them though as you can ...

Re: Review: Rhum Barbancourt Réserve Spéciale 8 Years

Thanks for the comments. Can you elaborate why this isn't an Agricole according to some people? As for the spell check, I'm not aware that there is such a module for phpBB 3 so spell checking will have to be up to the gentleman for the time being. Here is a quote from Ed Hamilton over at the Minist...

Spot on Count! I am aware there is some controversy about this rum being " Agricole" or not.

I find your take on this rum agreeable.

Bye the way ole chap,,,Where the hell is the spell check on the board?

The poor fellow did take a shotgun to his head. That sort of prop might not sit well with the patronage, saying nothing of his Estate.
Upon further consideration, and a bit of sobering up, I withdraw my suggestion to dis-inter the Old Sod.

Esteemed Senator. I find your South Seas proposal most agreeable. Oh...And instead of the Hemmingway impersonator. Why don't we just dis-inter the O...

Thank you for addressing this long dormant refined vice. I have just put down my copy of "The Pipe Smoker" by John Paul Beaumier and Lewis Camp. A wonderful treatise on the subject. Re: Your dream bar

Gentlemen, you are after my own heart in the concept of a dream bar. Your decor and menus are very well selected. Under the wine menu category, I would eliminate any "table" wine. God knows there are enough of those trendy wine bars serving all manner of over oaked chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon....

Re: Single Malt age statements

You could be onto something but I cannot help but get the image that there is also "Un-natural Cane Rum." What about Pure Cane Rum?

Perhaps in the end we can have a poll with the best suggestions and cast our final votes.
I find your suggestion equally acceptable.

And the poll idea is splendid.

Re: Single Malt age statements

I might propose the term "Natural Cane Rum" to distinguish juice made rum (from a single distillery) from processed cane byproduct rum. This eliminates the un-sexy term "juice", as well as the copycat term "single" (from the Scotch trade) in the designation, while maintaining an image of purity and ...

How about the term "Distilled, Aged and Bottled by XXXX"? I think Angelsword is looking for a more attractive single term for marketing. I was not aware that the term "single cane" had been used by Porfidio. I wonder if it is used as a trademark and papers were filed. It may be used descriptively. Descriptions cannot be trademarks. It appears there was a product labeled "Single Cane Rum" from Mexico under the Porfidio marque. The link to Ron Porfidio in the link you provided above ends in a dead domaine. Profidio was a producer of very high end Tequila/Agave spirits supposedly. After some research on the web I found much colou...
