Re: Glassware

The whiskey glasses that you can order from WHISKY magazine, and see/read about in Michael Jackson's legendary Single Malt Scotch guide, while I understand their purpose, I don't like the look of 'em. they look too fragile, delicate - and there very few things delicate about a glass of Whiskey. I pr...

Re: Bushmills 1608

I've never met a glass of Bushmills that I didn't like, before the 1608, Black Bush was my favorite, neck and neck with Jameson 12 year. I guess the biggest diffeence between a bottle of Black Bush and the 1608 is the taste, with the 1608, it leaps out at you, evenly, stays with you, and then fades....

Re: Ardbeg 1974 Double Barrel

As great as this one sounds, don't sleep on the 10 year Ardbeg, it gives the Laphroaig 10 and 15 year a run for it's money.

Bushmills 1608

I recently chatted with the owner of a new irish pub in my neighborhood. He had an unopened bottle of 1608, and he was from my old neighborhood back in the Bronx. When two people from the same neighborhood run into each other 2,000 miles from home, it's cause for celebration, so I bought the entire ...

Re: Cure for the common cold

I've found that Knob Creek Bourbon does the trick nicely, especially if one is clogged and coughing. It clears the sinuses well, coats the throat, and doesn't produce the urge to cough.

Re: Laphroaig

I was at a wedding in NYC a few years back, the only - and I mean only drink available at the open bar, was the Laphroaig Cask Strength. It's probably my favorite Single Malt, and I know there are a lot more heavy hitters out there, but that Laphroaig, combined with the magic of that night, carries ...

Re: Your dream bar

darkwood interior, fireplace, comfortable chairs and soft lighting. Bookcases stocked with only classics, there will be no Dean Koontz. Music, nothing post 1959, and never played too loud. Bourbon, Scotch, Rum, Wine and Vodka. This establishment would be geared more towards the Whiskey/Whisky drinke...

Re: Johnny Walker explained

I love the Walker series ( Black being my favorite ), but for price versus quality regarding JW Blue Label, while good, I can't see paying a sum like they ask, for what is basically a blend. There are finer Single Malts for much less.

Re: Favo(u)rite Whisk(e)y?

If I had to pick right now ( the answer to this question for me, changes daily ), I'd probably go with either Booker's or Old Potrero, heck, I might even toss in Old Weller 107.
