Re: Rookie Highball

Anyone who persues the pages of Imbibe magazine should check the upcoming May/June issue, as I am informed that this is scheduled to be printed therein! It would seem I had spoken too soon on this, having just purchased the latest issue of Imbibe , I am somewhat crestfallen to note that, for whatev...

Re: Pisco

Holy smokes - a Pisco Sour day as a holiday and I missed it... Thanks for all the links Bill Gorton! It's funny you should mention Patterson - I was there just yesterday. New Jersey is odd like that - huge numbers of Puerto Rican & Dominican folks in the Perth Amboy area also so there's always Medal...

Re: Rookie Highball

Regarding substitutes, none that I can think of really - Pimm's is kind of unique as far as I've seen. Actually, thinking on it, I've never seen or had it but the distillers of Plymouth Gin supposedly have a Pimm's-like bottled sling sort of stuff. Much as with their Sloe Gin, if it has a Plymouth g...

Re: Pisco

While I'll agree that the Peruvian limes (are these the limons I hear about every once in a blue moon, no?) make the best Pisco Sour (local ingredients often pair best with local spirits after all), even a Persian Lime can crank out an acceptably delicious one. That they can get any better is amazin...

Re: Rookie Highball

I hadn't checked back on this post for a bit - Tiare spotted this and had asked me if/why/how I was talking to myself...

As 'punishment' for your accidental edit you must dust off the Pimm's and sample said Highball

Cheers!

Re: Rookie Highball

That looks like a damn fine punch you have there Samurai. I may have to rustle myself up one this afternoon Why thank you..? Just to clear up my confusion here - how did this reply (?) get added to the bottom of my post (and whom am I thanking for its appearance?). Cheers! P.S. - I presume this is ...

Re: Pisco

Count, I am greatly saddened to hear this, most distressing, fact - I would urge you to sample one such Sour at your next opportunity as it embodies, quite possibly, the pinnacle of the Sour 'family' of cocktails. Nice recipe, though I'm suprised that it's prepared blender-wise. I've never made them...

Re: Daiquiri 1919

To add to Paul's excellent post, I've found so-called 'Black Daiquiris' (both aesthetically & to taste) work marvelously with any of the Barbancourt Haitian Rhum's - the 4-year/3-star in particular is quite nice & as it's a lighter-colored dark r(h)um (no caramel or molasses added at bottling) it la...

Pisco

Good evening! Do any of you good gentles favor a particular brand of Pisco? How do you best enjoy it? Do you prefer a certain brand for mixing cocktails with, or enjoying straight? For that matter, do you prefer the Peruvian variety or the Chilean? --------------------------------------------- Perso...

Rookie Highball

This was one of the first cocktails I'd ever created & it remains one of my standbys. Anyone who persues the pages of Imbibe magazine should check the upcoming May/June issue, as I am informed that this is scheduled to be printed therein! :D For those who do not, read on & enjoy! Re: Toasts

Glad you like it (& glad to be here)! That's one of my favorites as well - 'Vic is very much my personal hero... Oh it occurs to me that I'd left a portion of that last toast I'd posted out (I always forget that part when making that toast anyway). It should read: "Here's to the maiden of bashful si...

Re: Introduce yourself.

Greetings, Salutations, &c &c. to all in the RV forums! I have made my way here from the Ministry of Rum, and am frankly delighted to have found this group of noble gentles. I look forward to any & all conversation and discussion regarding spirits, cocktails & all suitably-refined matters in-between...
