Re: Rum review: Ron Atlantico Private Cask

Well i can see the cloud berry especially in the creamy sugary texture, but it (as i recall ) really doesn't have the darkness/ sweetness of the cola berry which is really what i was trying to tap into. anyway the blog is up, the notes didn't change much-- which is a testament the rum.. Here is the ...

Re: Rum review: Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

Another excellent review Count!! i couldn't agree with you more... The DRE is an absolutely stunning 'slurper', that is latticed with delicate spice, intricate floral nuance, and subtle fruit tone (cola berry, fig) which are all slightly overshadowed by the sweetness-- which also is very nice, but a...

To Age or Not to Age?

Quotes taken out of the context of the whole rarely tell the whole story. i agree wholeheartedly, i was only posting a 'synopsis' line from the posted reviews, which is why the quotes were embedded with links, so people could easily find the article that i was pulling quotes from to see for themsel...

Single Malt Whisky

Well i found a quote from Bill Dowd that i thought summed up the 'Signet' issues: I usually like to build my case for making a "good" or "bad" judgement step by step. I'll dispense with it here to immediately declare that anyone who does not find Signet a brilliant product should have her/his taste ...

My thanks for sharing yet another series of excellent points JaRiMi!! Would you then also agree with him that the Signet is worth the price? (Assuming you don't have a whole lot of money to spend). And before I forget, happy birthday Forrest! Well thank you very much kind Count! To clear things up, ...

Re: Single Malt Whisky: To Age or Not to Age?

Great article, i don't know David Kiley, but that was a fantastic job! i am writing up the Glenmorangie Signet for Dec, and Lumsden is right-it is voluptuous (Kiley is right also i notice a touch of maple on the back palate, but cocoa was the surprise for me). Also Jim Swan is right Penderyn is amaz...

Re: Rum review: Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 Solera

Hey Count, another excellent review!! i couldn't agree more... Matusalem G R is deeply overlooked as a premium rum, and i think unfairly so. Where i work, i can pick up a bottle of this for $21.+ US, and that my friend is a steal!! By the way your assessment on the relative stylistic comparison to H...

Re: Rum review: Clément Rhum Vieux VSOP

Another great review... To be honest, i think that this Rhum is my favorite in their line (maybe it is Homere, but it close either way). The nose with its generous smoked crab apple, rarified citrus, and banana peel-- only evolve to intriguingly multifarious complexities that shows so many intricate...

Re: Feckin Irish Whiskey

Yes, i have tasted it, and it was quite good.
We did a side by side with the standard Bushmills, and it favored well--
less alcohol on the nose, a bit more flavor on the palate, and a longer finish with some nice spices.

i would put it about that price point (Bushmills).

Re: Johnny Walker explained

Is Gold worth the price when compared to Green? Or Blue? Well it really lays in your preferences. For me, i prefer the Green, out of all of the 'normal' range (which includes Blue). Green is the only 'vatted' malt in the bunch, and it really shows in palate weight. Though to confess, i would much r...

Aguardiente

i haven't had the Spanish stuff, but do regularly keep a bottle of the Colombian handy (Antioqueno is the brand).
Colombian aguardiente is distilled from Molasses and flavored with Anise, it is quite tasty, and very nice in mixed drinks.
