Re: REVIEW: Old Crow Reserve 4 Year Old 86 Proof Bourbon

Well, sort of off the subject but the online photo storage service I use to host my photos indicates that a whole bunch of folks have been looking at this photo. That's why I asked about no comments. At less than $20 for a handle of bourbon you can't go wrong with this bourbon. It is cheaper than Ji...

Re: What do you use to light your cigar with?

I like the strike-anywhere matches to light cigars. I use them to light pipes as lighters tend to burn the rim. On the other hand much of my cigar smoking these days seems to go while driving home from work or university. With the windows open, even in the parking lot, it is almost impossible to use...

peetie44, In 2009 I won a grant from the German Foreign Office to do some research in Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania and Denmark. During this time, especially when I was in Germany, I was able to have access to some of the best cigars the Cuban government is able to market. Indeed, for those Am...

Oh, one more thing, Jimmy. Since I too live in SoFla I hope I will soon get the chance to see an example of your superpowers up close and personal. I'm pretty sure I know your haunts and hunting grounds as I have been poaching them for some time. When we do finally cross paths I would very much like...

I started wearing a full beard when I went back to graduate school in 2007. Waking up at 04:00 to head to work then University after until 23:00 took away my motivation to shave. I defended my thesis in July but have yet to shave...pure laziness and not fashion on my part!

Sure, I have tried many of the Dominican Republic made Cohiba. I am less than impressed. I should add that I am less than impressed with the Cuban made ones too as for the money I do not think they deliver on taste or construction. Personally, I think asking 20Euro for a cigar is more than I am will...

Pieter, I picked up a Xikar lighter as a reward to myself for completing the writing of a paper on the Great Depression. I was at the wonderful tobacconist in Key Largo talking about lighters when I decided to take the leap. They are a great bargain and are wonderful lighters....haven't broken it yet.

We ended up going through 6 of the 1.75l bottles of Forty Creek. The store I was buying these from was in the process of shutting down. Review: Sancho Panza Double Maduro Lancero

I have always liked the Sancho Panza brand cigars rolled in Cuba. They are well made from good tobacco and aim to please the mid-priced consumer. A number of years ago Sancho Panza cigars began to be rolled in Honduras for the USA market. Although these too were aimed at the modest priced market in ...

My Personal Cigar Statement! Please Add Your Thoughts!!!!

In my misspent youth I would smoke just about any cigar; machine made, hand made, hand rolled, good, bad and ugly all graced my lips from one time to another. In my old age I have come to develop distinct preferences and will use this post to list mine. I invite others to follow suit. I like dark ci...

Interesting read as this jives with what I experience in South Florida among the exile communities here as well. I think among a certain social and economic level Rum was seen as less cultured and more low class than Scotch. I know one older gentleman, in his 60s, an exiled upper middle class,educat...

Of all the Johnnie Walker offerings that I have tried I still feel the Green Label is the best buy of the lot. You can often find it for under $50 and sometimes under $40. At that price it is worthy of adding a bottle to your stash. It goes remarkably well with cigars and stands up to the strongest ...

Re: What do you use to light your cigar with?

Two years later and with more reflection I think the lighting of a cigar, within limitations (no zippos, or liquid petroleum based fuels) is less important than the cutting in getting a good smoke. A well stored cigar will actually rather quickly (within a few minutes) even out the ash if lit in onl...

I tend to keep between 500-1000 cigars on hand in my humidors at any given time so they can have time to age. Some age longer than others. More on that in another posting. So, you are in Finland? That is VERY interesting. I have been collecting Finnish Mosin Nagant's for the better part of the last ...
