Re: The Beard Thread
I usually switch between a goatee and a full beard depending on the season. recently I've taken to removing the "joiners between the upper lip and chin. However I'm not entirely sure what you'd call this.

I heartily approve, Count.Count Silvio wrote:Once again Refined Vices updates its look. Instead of a 2 column layout I now offer a 3 column layout. I felt I needed some more space.

Re: Review: Kimberley Cane Spirit
Hmm..i think i should be able to come up with something, maybe on the citrusy side? I do agree that it might be best for sipping, but i`m a experimenter so i`ll still try it out, at least a little. I wasn't impressed with how the Cane Spirit reacted with orange juice, but I'm interested to hear wha...

Re: Review: Kimberley Cane Spirit
Cane Spirit is a strange alcohol and doesn't really play well with other liquids. I don't know of any cocktail that is accentuated with the cane spirit.tiare wrote:This one sparks my interest Count! i would love to create a cocktail with it..

Red Hummingbird in Melbourne hold a bottle behind the bar. Of course they won't tell me how they managed to get it into town. But it's a lead.

I can heartily recommend the Rum Shrub.
As the the cocktail requires a lot of preparation (days), you may have a hard time finding a bar that knows how to make them.

Ron Matruselum 15 Gran Reserva.
It's a blended rum, but with the majority of the blend aged at 15 years it is incredibly smooth and a delight to drink.

Re: Favo(u)rite Whisk(e)y?
I've become quite enamoured of the Glenfiddich 15 year of late.
I'd not heard of the 21 year Havana Reserve before now. I'll have to track that one down.

What an extraordinary first post.
I don't think there's any other spirit in the world whose various permutations can be drunk across all classes. I am happy to be corrected though.

Re: Cocktails for the New Year
While I won't be indulging in the finer side of alcoholism over the new year I can recommend this disarming cocktail: Hurricane - 30ml light rum - 30ml dark rum - 60ml passion fruit juice - 30ml orange juice - 15ml fresh lime juice - 1 tbsp simple syrup - 1 tbsp grenadine - Garnish: orange slice and...

Re: Review: Mount Gay Eclipse
Quite an enjoyable review there, my dear Count. I think you've really hit the proverbial nail there. The Eclipse is a very uncomplicated rum. In fact it was first offered to me as an introduction to rums outside the likes of the ubiquitous Barcardi. I suggest doing the same for anyone you think nee...

Re: Cork vs Screw Cap
I find that while theres no really noticeable difference between cork and screw-cap, I do find the act of inhaling the light fumes off the cork to be a big part of my drinking experience. A teaser of what's to come. With regards to spills and drips that come with a corked bottle, well these can be a...

To me it seems very simple. If it's a blend mark it as such on the front. Note the ages (and percentages) of the blends on the back label.

Though Bundaberg does appear to be the liquor franca in in New Holland, there are other options for the discerning rum drinker. While Mount Gay Eclipse and Havana Club are both excellent drops, I would be remiss if I didn't suggest Mount Gay Extra Old. If you are inclined to keep your money in the c...
