Re: Top sipping rums tasted

I see nothing wrong with that list. I'd probably add a few:

Clement XO
Rhum JM VSOP
Oronoco

Those are the three that spring to mind. On any given day though other rums can join the list.

Re: "Nice legs"

The legs are, indeed an indicator of alcoholic content, although the viscosity of the spirit DOES play a part in their formation. If it didn't, then all 40% ABV spirits would have identical legs. Or at least that's how it works in my mind. I'm not a chemist...I'm just some guy that drinks a lot of r...

Re: Ron Zacapa 23 as a benchmark

Essentially, Zacapa could not keep up with the demand for the Centenario and have had to modify their blend because they didn't maintain a high enough stock of their older rums. This is also a large part of why they stopped selling their rum to Zaya and no one expects the contract with Monte Cristo ...

Re: Glassware

I like the looks of the whiskey glasses. I think that they would work best for rums. I missed the Riedel session at Tales of the Cocktail, but I heard it was fantastic, and that the spirits really did taste differently in the different glasses (although that could be the power of suggestion). I hear...

That is an excellent haul, sir. My only haul recently was my bottle of Master Blender's Legacy. I plan on hitting Hi TIme this weekend to replenish some bottles that I emptied over the weekend at a party (out of Matusalem Platino and New Orleans Dark...and I keep thinking it wouldn't be a bad thing ...

Re: Drinks for the summer

I generally add the soda last and give a quick stir. To avoid getting mint pieces in my mouth I find that the use of crushed ice seems to suppress the mint uprising fairly well. Lately I've been a big fan of the Depaz Midnight Mojito , or at least my variation on it...I use 2 oz. of rum, 1 oz. of sy...

Re: Drinks for the summer

It is but they never have any mint so I have to get substitutes. I should consider bringing my own mint to bars. Well, I don't know how it is over there, but here it's considered bad form to order a mojito at a bar that doesn't count it among their house specialties - unless the bar's business is V...

I've grown a full beard over the past few months. I think I've finally reached a level of thickness that requires trimming...otherwise I'll be stumbling into full-on hippiness.

To my way of thinking, this is a question best answered by the drinker. Using different limes could also make a difference.

QFE. While I haven't done a proper review of it yet, I've had a bottle of the Dark Chocolate on my shelf for a while now, and it is excellent.

I arranged a trade for it for my wife, but I drink it more often than she does.

Thank you for the short review. I would find banana a very pleasant surprise in a rum. Many people have reported banana in those little heavier rums but I am yet to find any banana in my rums though. Dan has graciously allowed me to review another of his offerings: Temptryst Mesquite.
