Re: 15 Steps to Setting Up a Gorgeous Bar

One of those I'm familiar with: the Iittala Collective Tools bottle opener (we have a lot of Iittala Tools in the kitchen). Iittala does make good stuff but 30€/$40 for a stainless still bottle opener is ridiculous - even for a design item.

Re: Your dream bar

I like the sound of this bar and I couldn't agree with you more on 'no television sets'. I find television sets at bars or pubs are a bad thing as people often look at the TV rather than talk with friends or meet new people. This is why certain vigilant gentlemen have been known to turn those devic...

Re: The Art of the Pipe shall not be lost

I do have a briar pipe and some Sweet Killarney to go with it but I'm still breaking it in. It's a skill that takes a while to learn. I'm still figuring out the best way to pack it and the right speed to smoke it. I've tried the packing in thirds method and I do believe I'm not smoking in haste but ...

It would have to have some art on the walls, possibly some pencil sketches of cigars, to justify the name Drawing Room. I'd add a fireplace too because leaning on the mantelpiece with one hand with a glass in the other is sometimes required. The music should never be too loud. I vote for the dress c...

I have a box pressed Bolivar gran corona waiting for its time to come. Bolivars are supposed to be a strong and full brand anyway so I don't know if the box pressed shape will play any signifcant role there.

You might also find it rather hard to get those seeds past customs. I know of a home-grown enthusiast who gets his tobacco from some supplier. He said that if he ever was caught smoking those the penalties would be quite a bit harsher than those from the possession of cannabis products. Proceed with...

Re: What's in the 'dor?

Recently I found myself in the unbearable position that I have only one instance of any particular cigar in the humidor. This is a bit of a conundrum while entertaining guests as I haven't even tried all of them myself. How to distribute smokes to one or more guests so that no one feels they've been...

La Libertidad Robusto has been a good smoke on more than one occasion. And indeed very reasonably priced.. Guess I'll have to go and get me one. For the uninitiated, it may be easier to find this cigar from the shops with its correct spelling which is La Libertad . I'm sure your tobacconist will kn...

I did indeed empty a glass of this rare specimen. The first impression I received was the rather high price, 25 euros for just 4 centilitres. Oh well... Next I committed a sin and tasted it before it was properly warmed. This failed to impress so I waited a bit. As my cigar was reaching its apex I t...

Whilst you enjoyed the cigar immensly, do you dispute my premise that a higher calibre style Port would have enhanced your experience of the cigar, and vice versa? Of course not and I promise I will make an effort to procure some tawny or vintage next time the occasion arises. :tippin: Sincerely Yo...

Re: A Post Scriptum

Common sense dictates that if you put a 10 euro whisky, a 10 euro rum and a 10 euro brandy on the table none of them will taste good. Add just two tenners to the respective prices and the drinks start to get palatable. Add a similar price increase and the amber nectar will fly off the bottle. The f...

Staying in Honduras, why not give La Libertad a go. Then there's Joya de Nicaragua, while obviously not from Honduras, is enjoyed by many.

In general good cigars should not cost that much whether they come from Habanos or not. If you are getting hornswoggled it's time to shop elsewhere.

I do quite like Graham but this time Ruby was the only one present so I went with her. A fantastic bouquet for the price I must add. Siglo VI - A tale of aromatherapy

I am sad to report that the crown jewel and de facto ruler of my humidor is gone. I consumed the Cohiba Siglo VI some time ago and though I miss its presence I have no regrets. It was undoubtedly one of the finest, if not the finest, smoking moments of my life. I accompanied it with some Niepoort Ru...

What do you think of artificial cork? It doesn't fool anyone by trying to be a real cork but you can still complete the ceremony of using a corkscrew. Handing it out for the smell test seems kind of pointless but in my opinion hiding it sends a message that you are hiding something. Now that twist t...

A Post Scriptum

It is interesting to see that there are other countries too where rum is synonymous to some vile liquid. You forgot to mention that in our country - which is a Sahara for rums - this product is terribly overpriced. I haven't tasted it in a while so I can't really comment on the flavours but if you factor in the price I'd give it a 2 out of 5.

The normal 10-yo Laphroaig is good stuff indeed. I like to add just a drop or two of water to release even more flavour. Recently I ordered a bottle of their Quarter Cask which is a rather nice acquaintance. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who hasn't had an Islay malt before due to the peaty kick...
