Ice in a malt whisky? Well, even in a blended malt it really shouldn't be done. A splash of water is all you should add to a Malt Whisky as it helps to 'unlock' some of the more complex flavours.

Having never really got a taste for Rum it's likely that I'll be toasting the spirits of Pirates with a bog standard Captain Morgan, I believe he was a pirate after all! Certainly not Lamb's Old Navy anyway!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! International Talk Like A Pirate Day 'tis tomorrow! 19th September 'tis the day that the world goes Pirate Crazy. Toast the spirit of Pirates with a splash of Grog and use any opportunity you can to give a hearty "Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!" I would hope that even the fine gentlemen here...

Nice review Count! I do like the new style of review (though maybe a more neutral background for the site rather than this dull charcoal that is currently the background?) I'm not a huge fam of blended whisky, but JW does have a very strong reputation for quality and consistency. Although I consider...

I have been known to occasionally to play a game of chess. I'm afraid my skills have become a little rusty due to the lack of opponents these days. Looking around this Drawing Room with its fine chesterfields and wingbacks it has occurred to me that there should be some form of gentlemanly recreation to accompany the refined tastes of our members. I propose that we install a couple of chess boards to achieve a further air of gentlemanly sophist...

Highland Park has a mild well rounded peat flavour (one of my personal favorites too!), though peaty flavours do dominate a lot of the island distilleries particularly the Islay Malt whisky's, I'd recommend trying the Bowmore and/or Laphroaig

Re: Sunlight and Whisky

Sun bleaching is unlikely to have a noticeable effect in only a few days, unless it is getting the full force of the summer sun over the whole day. Though a couple of hours a day, over a few weeks will start to show visible effects of bleaching. As for your pouch, you don't state how long it has bee...

Re: Sunlight and Whisky

I'd agree here the Count, direct sunlight will cause changes in your whisky over time. The amount of change will be dependent on the amount of direct sunlight they receive and the container they are in. A clear glass decanter would possibly be the most significant as the stopper will allow a minute ...

Re: Single Malt age statements

I encourage this kind of discussion so if you had any doubts about such a topic on MoR, you may have leeway here. I think similar restrictions should be applied to "Single Cane Rum" that Single Malts currently have if there was a product like that. Obviously without restrictions the term would not ...

I must congratulate you on some good taste! A nice selection of single malts there, and a lucky co-worker to receive such a fine malt (my personal favorite for 'everyday' drinking!). Re: Favo(u)rite Whisk(e)y?

I've become quite enamoured of the Glenfiddich 15 year of late. I'd not heard of the 21 year Havana Reserve before now. I'll have to track that one down. Glenfiddich have a very fine variety of 'special reserves', and from over £17,000 a bottle for the 64year old, to a more reasonable £250 for a 21...

Using the spoon certainly enhances the ritual aspects of absinth drinking. To kick start the new sub-forum on other liquors I thought Absinthe would make a great one to begin with! Not sure who'd mix it with Coke, but certainly paying over the odds when you can buy a 64 year glenfiddich for $20,000 less. Though I may do a little more research into that bottling. I suspect that canny investors may be laying down a bottle or 2 of this Glenfiddich to sell at auction when all 61 b...

Though personally I prefer Single Malts. ;)
