Please forgive the straight-forward answer (little pressed for time in the office today). Just discussed this with the bartender experts and they agree, drink it neat or on the rocks. If you want to mix with it, you can make a standard daiquiri or the non-politically correct named Mulata Daiquiri Mu...

Re: IPBartenders Rum Experience March 19th, 26th and 2nd April

20 rums a day you say? Does that equal to 20 standard measures? (I hope no spitting aka wasting of the rum was done) Thanks for the links. No spitting as far as I saw. God forbid! We usually serve out about 15-20ml measure of each rum for the tasting, however, my own tasting mat is usually over-flo...

Re: IPBartenders Rum Experience March 19th, 26th and 2nd April

Sorry for the delay in replying old chap. The Rum experience was exceptional. About 40 people sat through the course on the 3 days tasting 20 rums a day and sitting through some fun training. We even managed to make a passable 32-35% distillate from a blackstrap mollases 18 hour fermented wash, with...

Re: Plantation Rum

How is the Barbancourt? Have you rushed off the cap yet? Yes, the Doorly's XO comes in a metal tube. A rum supplier told me that consumers don't view rums as being premium unless they come in a metal tube. I told him I couldn't give a monkeys what the bottle is wrapped in as long as the rum is good ...

£150! It's an exceptional whisky for anyone who also appreciates fine rum but that's a lot of money.

Could I be persuaded to pay £150 for it? Don't know - good thing we don't have to :)

Thank the chaps at Santa Teresa. Their brand ambassador team in the UK headed up by an exceptional bartender called Jim Wrigley are brilliant and full of information. As I said on MOR - I wish all producers in all categories were as free with information

Re: Review: Jameson Irish Whiskey Spectacular Double Bill

Prepare to be majorly let down. I have spoken to a contact at Jamesons who has confirmed the code on every bottle is entirely meaningless. It is merely there for design purposes.

I've been bugging every spirits expert in the UK on this and frankly I'm a bit disappointed.

It's really intriguing and no-one seems to know the answer.....yet

£100 for the treasure chest - it's supposed to be drunk by (pieces of) 8.

London's full of bars - and full of bars manned by friends, who are absent minded when it comes to the bill :)

Re: Recommended classic rum cocktails

The treasure chest is the real deal - it's a great drink without being notably unique. When you come you'll have to go to both bars. Trailer is great with a really welcoming atmosphere as long as you're not there on Fri/Sat when it can get shoulder to shoulder. The best thing is, our bar is 10 minut...

Re: Recommended classic rum cocktails

Tiki is very cool in London right now. There are 2 main bars - Mahiki is the favourite haunt of the royal princes and all the moneyed set and Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill is one of the coolest bars anywhere on the planet. It also helps they're manned by some of the world's best bartenders. Read...

Re: El Dorado Single Barrel

Don't bother! They are expensive and really don't taste that great at all. They are single barrels examples, from different Guyanese distilleries, that would have been blended into fine El Dorado spirits. Individually though they don't stand up at all. Thin tasting and not at all what you would expe...

Re: New rums at IPB to ward off January chills

The Silver seals are the closest rums we've ever tasted to the W&N 17 year old original. The very very best in Mai Tai's is the Demerara 28 year old 1974, but we can't find anymore anywhere of that. If you find any, we'd be prepared to pay a pretty penny..... The 32 year olds are a little over-aged ...
