Re: Review: Mount Gay Extra Old Rum

Probably reserved some of the older stocks for the 1703 or increased production due to high demand required changes. This happened to Angostura 1919 as well.

Just purchased two bottles of this rum and will post my notes once I get it to Australia. It looks very interesting and if the quality is anything like the previous Caronis I've tried I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Mexican Distillers Fight Over the Word ‘Agave’

Who owns the word “agave”? A select group of tequila and mezcal producers would if a controversial piece of legislation in Mexico wins approval. Both tequila and mezcal — tequila’s older, smokier cousin — are made from agave, a breed of succulent that has been grown and distilled in Mexico for cent...

Price of Angostura Bitters set to skyrocket?

A lawyer friend of mine (yes, it is technically possible) asked my opinion back in August for a document he was preparing to challenge a proposal to lift the exemption from excise duty on Angosura Bitters. Angostura is actually 44.7% ABV, so it technically a booze, but since 1970 it has been exempt...

IE8 will be forced into compatibility view mode automatically if loaded on IE8 due to CSS issues with the browser.

Re: Which Rum should I to try next?

I wouldn't say the 5 year old English harbour is lighter in flavour than the 10 year old, in fact I prefer it over the 10 year old. I find it's more vibrant. Matusalem 15 is a solera aged rum so it is not actually 15 years old but contains some 15 year old rum in it. Having said that it is one of my...

Hi Ricky, welcome to Refined Vices! Your friend picked a very nice rum to introduce you to the world of rum! Re: Review: Mount Gay Extra Old Rum

Well that is good. The price here for a bottle of XO is about 50 bucks, which I think is very good considering the high tax rate on alcohol. Most other spirits aged less than XO have a beginning price of 80 dollars. Bear in mind that the AUD is stronger than the USD at the moment. However if I...
