Re: Single Malt age statements

I encourage this kind of discussion so if you had any doubts about such a topic on MoR, you may have leeway here. I think similar restrictions should be applied to "Single Cane Rum" that Single Malts currently have if there was a product like that. Obviously without restrictions the term would not ...

Re: Single Malt age statements

I have been a fan of Single Malts for a long time, but I am not scholar by any means. I too would presume that a Malt labeled 10, 12, 15, etc., would be entirely of a single year. Of course the Distillery would blend the different casks of that years produce to provide a sastisfactory taste profile ...

Single Malt age statements

The topic of age statements on Single Malts came up on the Ministry of Rum forum, so I thought I'd bring the topic over here. I am aware that the age stated has to be the youngest in the bottle, and that in theory older Malts can be included in the "blend". In the case of Single Malts that carry a d...

Amarantha. Nice to see you join in here. Whilst I am all in favor of engaging in a bit of bawdiness and ribaldry, Even I winced a bit at the last line of your toast. Might you edit that "one" word for the sake of decorum and out of respect to the ladies present on the board?

Re: Review: Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum

I don't consider it a real single barrel because the blend is put into a single cask to mature for a year and then bottled from that single cask. Aren't "single barrels" usually only ever in that one particular barrel? I know understand your point Count. Well taken. I suppose a more accurate descri...

Re: Review: Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum

Thank you. I hope my future reviews will continue to please the readers. Two minor points, If I may. Whilst Cruzan Single barrel is a blend.. It is bottled Cask by Cask... So variations in the bottlings are inevitable. I still don't think it is a "real" single barrel though, if you know what I mean...

Re: Age statements

Solera is tricky indeed. One does not know if they are following the Spanish and Madhirean traditions. In a solera the blender is acheiving a mark by fractional blending. How much he "pushes" the the solera by drawing from it year to year directly affects quality. RZ 23 may have been started 23 year...

Re: Age statements

Single Malt indeed is from a single distillery and made entirely from malted barley.

Vatted Malt is a blend of Single Malts.

Blended Scotch is a combination of Malt and neutral grain Whiskys.

A splendid thread and a very nice link by Baron Rupert. I have a first edition of Barnaby Conrad's book on the subject. It's a delightful read. Dear Count. A pity that the template wouldn't stick here...I had grown rather fond of it I must admit. I think you hit upon an interesting point here Count. The fact that the "Turkey" may be what you're more used to (and prefer) as opposed to the more ellucid EW. The fact that you gave EW such a high mark in your review tells me that you did a nice job and tried to put aside your own preferences in a...

Dear sir. You are wise beyond your years and to be congratulated! You are correct in observing that oxidation does take place. It's been quite some time since I tasted this rum. My bottle is long drained now. My notes show that at the time I detected herbal camphor aromas and flavors that reminded me of sage or woodruff. Mind you, a one off tasting is just a "snapshot", and rum blends (and one's perceptions) do change.
