Re: Review: Santa Teresa 1796 Ron Antiguo de Solera

Sounds very interesting Paul. I'll be looking forward to your email. :poppin: I find this rum to be near the pinnacle of classic style. Nothing unusual except extreme quality. Would you care to elaborate 'classic style'? There are a wide variety of special techniques that one can use to set a rum a...

Re: Mezcal, Tequila, Sotol

If find that there are similarities of flavor category between Scotches and Agave spirits. The tequilas and the highland Scotches tend towards more subtlety while the mescals and Lowland Scotches are big in flavour. If I find that some person appreciates a certain Scotch I can frequently recommend t...

Re: Dear readers...

I removed the servants from their quarters, leaving them the tool closet. I was able to then convert the servant kitchen cabinets into liquor display. I also converted the previous sleeping quarters into additional storage. The living room became a tasting area.

Re: Mezcal, Tequila, Sotol

Any experiences with Casa Noble Añejo? In order to answer the question properly I picked up a bottle today, and one of Casa Noble Cristal. Nose of the anejo is of cactus, spice, vanilla, desert flowers, and earth. The taste is distinct from most tequilas with more earthiness and smoke. Broad flavor...

Re: Mezcal, Tequila, Sotol

I'm not much of a tequila drinker because they only sell 6 tequilas here. Two of them are Sierra (tequila for the masses) and the rest of them is cheap stuff which I assume is rotgut. There is one Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia which costs near 100 euros but there is no chance I'm buying that. T...

Casa Noble Anejo is certainly one of the best tequilas around. I am out at the moment but plan to pick up another bottle soon.

Mezcal, Tequila, Sotol

I am a big fan of distilled juice from the Agavaceae family. There are quite a few members of this family which can be made into spirits. The best known of these is the blue Agave used for Tequila. But other succulents work even better. My Collection: Mescal & Sotol: Chacmol Del Maguey Single Villag...

When many distilleries sell an entire cask they will pour in a bottle from another distillery so that it is no longer a single malt.

Apparently some rums are aged in huge vats instead of barrels.

Re: Rum from the Islay

I recieved a bottle of one of these rums from Santa. It is the Uitvlught Port Morant Guyana 13yr Murray McDavid Sauterne Finish 1992. This a very well balanced and complex Guyana rum. I don't know if I would purchase such at this price level however.

Recently on another forum there has been talk about the numbers on rum bottle labels, specifically Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 años, and how they can be misleading. There has also been some conversation about this at Ministry of Rum as some of you know. It was suggested that on the label there should ...

Forty Creek 40

It is rare to find something that jumps so far above the rest of the field, as this Canadian whiskey rises above all others. There simply is no comparison to any other Canadian Whiskey that has crossed my palate. While I have been a fan of the 40 Creek Barrel Select, the Small Batch Reserve is in an...
