Will Venezuela go sour on whisky?

By Will Grant BBC News, Caracas When people in Venezuela turned up at their New Year's Eve parties, many would have been carrying with them a bottle of the nation's favourite tipple: Scotch whisky. Imported Scotch outsells local rums and other liquors in Venezuela by a ratio of almost two-to-one, m...

250 bottles of whisky for Burns’ birthday

By Cara Sulieman RECEIVING a bottle of whisky for your birthday is not unusual - but one famous Scot has had 250 bottles made especially for him. Famous Grouse have created the special edition bottles to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth and Homecoming 2009. The bottles, one to...

Tanduay 18 and Tanduay Centennial tasted

Tanduay 18 (Is this the official name of the bottle J?) Appearance Amber colour with some orange, several tall legs form around the glass on regular intervals. Nose Very woody upfront with smooth, cool tropical fruit underneath. The wood in this rum is kind of dry and almost earthy in character. Va...

With all due respect there will be no fighting or accusations towards other members. There will be no more BTI in this thread or I will have to begin using a very spe...

Re: You Can’t See It to Believe It

Might be interesting to try it once but I don't see it becoming a trend. I think I'd prefer a nicely decorated bar with decent music instead, to create the atmosphere.

Floridita in London was good because there was live music and people were actually dancing. And the cocktails were amazing.

Sweet rums can be good as long as the sweetness doesn't overpower everything else.

Re: Chill (and other) filtration in rum manufacturing

Hmm, I can see how removing something could be considered as cheating but I still think it is the lesser evil between adding and removing something. Like if I removed a nasty sauce from the top of my steak it would be better, in my opinion, than if the steak was very nasty and I had to spice it up w...

At this moment my top sipping rums consist of these though I may add more to this thread later: El Dorado 15 I like this because it never lets me down, because it is amazingly robust, because you can drink it at any given moment. Appleton Estate Extra One of my favorites, can't say I can find much b...

You Can’t See It to Believe It

This is quite an interesting article I found, it is old but nevertheless interesting. A bar in Sydney has taken serving cocktails to another level by introducing sensory cocktails that are supposed to heighten the whole cocktail experience.

So Capn, you've been in contact with the producers of this rum then? And they've said they have indeed "spiced" this rum?

I store my bottles on an open shelf and the room temperature is around 24 C most of the time. I find that people in Europe tend to find drier spirits more to their taste whereas the people in South America and North American tend to like the sweeter stuff, especially in South America.
