Kitchen Gin

I ordered a Martini last night. I was engaged in conversation and wasn’t watching the bartender as she poured me a stiff, ice-cold concoction that she then gingerly placed on the table in front of me. My mouth watered a little bit. But as I carefully raised the precariously filled glass to my lips,...

Re: Rum review: Ron Zacapa Centenario 23

From MoR: Well, my friends, according to the bottle, which was purchased in 1986, this is the Solera 23. And of course, it is the full weave covered bottle. Another interesting note: no cork. It was a plastic twist off cap. So, in order to be fair, I had to taste it next to a current bottle of Zaca...

Re: Favorite Bundled Cigars.

Excellent post again MJL and an impressive collection. You may need a small walk in humidor soon :P. Not owning a humidor of any kind at this point and being the occasional smoker my experience with bundled cigars is, I'm afraid, very limited. I am used to buying singles, infact, I am not even sure ...

Re: Learning about flavours

An excellent topic you've started. I was just talking about this the other night to Theodore when I was writing the Berry Bros review, I couldn't identify a familiar fruit aroma in the rum and thought that I probably need to do exactly what you've suggested. Often I know the aroma is there but I can...

Re: Rum review: Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

I don't know if there are any specific places where the sales are reported except maybe at the distilleries but following the conversation around the net the sales of liqueur like rums isn't going to be decreasing any time soon. Because they are so extremely easy to drink, I understand why they are ...

http://www.refinedvices.com/newsimages/rum/thumb/diplomaticoreservaexclusivat.jpg For as long as I can remember I've had a thing for Venezuelan rums and you could say I've never had rum from Venezuela that has disappointed me. Since learning about Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva I just knew I had to ...

Re: What do you use to light your cigar with?

I'm the occasional smoker myself so the butane torches that I've used have lasted, though the ones they give at certain bars are always empty and I end up having to use a million matches. Good point about the candles and kerosene lamps! I've not tried the cedar strips myself yet but might have to gi...

Re: Berry Bros & Rudd, Port Morant kept in Laphroaig casks 2yrs

Thanks JaRiMi for the samples. I promised to write a mini review for you this week so I decided to pour a glass of this rum tonight. I have to say I was quite surprised as this seems more like a whisky rather than a rum! This rum failed to disappoint me however, as I had read your comments about it ...

As a bit of a designer it is also nice to learn who designed their bottles. As an additional note: Halle Berry was also competing for th...

When that appears, I'll put everything together and photograph it. edit: just received my order. Only had 1 7yo in it because thats all the...

Welcome to the forums! I am glad you enjoy the site. If I recall correctly, Oronoco rum has been aged for 7 years, which would make it an aged rum, but the colour has been filtered out to make it white. Re: Chill (and other) filtration in rum manufacturing

I am not sure I quite understand why charcoal filtering in his opinion would be cheating since its not like anything is being added, such as flavourings, to improve the spirit. Did he explain why? I think perhaps, rum drinkers do not take their hobby quite as seriously as the whisky drinkers, but ma...

I don't believe it is to correct a distillation as much as it is trying to make it look as clear as possible like you said.

The Cocktail Bar Do's and Don't's

Do order more classic cocktails, the bartenders seem to appreciate it when you order something else than just a beer or a vodka red bull.

Do make sure you know how to make the cocktail you are ordering incase the bartender doesn't know or remember how.

Post your own.
