Please post your finest toasts here, so that we may all benefit from the shared knowledge of those sophisticates more witty and charming than we, ourselves, are.

I wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
A pocket full of money
And a cellar full of beer!

Here's to us all,
God bless us every one!

Peace and plenty for many a Christmas to come.

At Christmas play and make good cheer
For Christmas comes but once a year.

Now, thrice welcome, Christmas!
Which brings us good cheer,
Mince pies and plum pudding-
Strong ale and strong beer!

Then here's to the heartening wassail,
Wherever good fellows are found;
Be its master instead of its vassal,
And order the glasses around.

Here's to holly and ivy hanging up,
And to something wet in every cup.

A Merry Christmas this December
To a lot of folks I don't remember.

May you never be without a drop at Christmas.

I wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
A pocket full of money
And a cellar full of beer!

I know I've wished you this before
But every year I wish it more,
A Merry Christmas.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's wishing you more happiness
Than all my words can tell,
Not just alone for Christmas
But for all the year as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christmas is here,
Merry Old Christmas,
Gift-bearing, heart-touching, joy-brining Christmas,
Day of grand memorie, king of the year.

At Christmas play and make good cheer
For Christmas comes but once a year.

A Christmas wish -
May you never forget
what is worth remembering
or remember
what is best forgotten.

While not quite a toast, I've always been fond of a particular Scottish saying at tea time:

Some ha'e meat and cannae eat.
Some can eat but want it.
But we ha'e meat, and we can eat.
And so the lord be thank it.
Amen.

And if by chance we disagree
...**** you, here's to me

Amarantha. Nice to see you join in here. Whilst I am all in favor of engaging in a bit of bawdiness and ribaldry, Even I winced a bit at the last line of your toast. Might you edit that "one" word for the sake of decorum and out of respect to the ladies present on the board?

Technically, I am a Woman of Refined Vices. But I do not object to masculine forms of address. Now sheol (my fiance), he might object... :P

My sincere apology for my myopic assumption on your gender. I'm reminded of what happens when one "assumes".

Indeed, I consider you a Woman of Refined Vices.

Good wine, a friend, or being dry,

Drink to the lass,
I'll warrent she'll prove,
An excuse for the glass."

Glad you like it (& glad to be here)! That's one of my favorites as well - 'Vic is very much my personal hero...

Oh it occurs to me that I'd left a portion of that last toast I'd posted out (I always forget that part when making that toast anyway). It should read:

"Here's to the maiden of bashful sixteen;
Here's to the widow of fifty;
Here's to the flaunting, extravagent queen;
And here's to the housewife that's thrifty!
Let the toast pass;
Drink to the lass;
I'll warrent she'll prove an excuse for the glass!"
~Richard Sheridan, "The School for Scandal" (by way of W.C. Whitfield's Here's How! - Mixed Drinks, 1941)

Cheers!

I just realized i haven`t made any toast yet..

So here are my toasts:

Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me, and just be my friend.

The Lord gives us our relatives,
Thank God we can choose our friends.

And here is “Manuia!” which is “Tahitian for “cheers!
