Hi all. I'm a relative newcomer to the world of rum and I'm finding it quite to my liking. I've been working my way through the top shelf at a local bar specialising in such things and slowly (they run out so fast) building a collection of my own.
I recently tried some Pyrate and I'm keen to get hold of a bottle but having hard time locating a seller. I'm in Victoria, Australia and been to some of the bigger liquor merchants but I'm not sure where else to look. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Great site by the way. I'm trying to educate my ignorant friends about the many great qualities of rum and now I have the borrowed knowledge to make it sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Welcome to Refined Vices Aeronik.
The coveted Pyrat XO is a rum relatively hard to find at a reasonable price outside US and England so I would say your best bet is buying from the internet or finding some kind of a specialty store. The Whisky Exchange has Pyrat but for £31 and then of course there is the shipping price so the total price would be dear. We have some other australians on this board as well so I hope they can be of more help than I can.

Thanks Count. The exchange is certainly an option. I've made inquiries at the bar and they would be happy to sell me a bottle at a slightly cheaper price than getting it shipped from the exchange but there is apparently some nationwide shortage of the stuff and they don't know when they will next get a resupply.
Of course if I were to get a few bottles sent over the price of shipping per item would be reduced substantially...

Glad I could help.
It appears Whisky Exchange is selling the older Planters Gold which is supposed to be better than Pyrat XO with the new label (Pyrat XO Reserve). I don't have any opinions about this since I have not been able to do a comparison between them. Infact I havent even dared to open my Planters Gold bottle yet. I'm thinking of keeping it sealed till I can get another Planters Gold bottle and the newer XO Reserve bottle.

If anyone manages to find Pyrat XO in Australia (or concludes that the Planters Gold is indeed better), please let me know. sheol (my fiance and a lurker here at RV {omg he's right behind you!!!}) loved the stuff when he tried it at a bar last year.
Thanks muchly

Red Hummingbird in Melbourne hold a bottle behind the bar. Of course they won't tell me how they managed to get it into town. But it's a lead.

Yes.... the elusive Pyrat XO...
well some good news for those in OZ, and you heard it here first...Vintage cellars has started carrying the Patron spirits.by request or off the shelf if you are lucky depending on the outlet. Our local (Sydney) gets it in a week or so..
If you can't wait, I think you can order it online samswine.com..It is expensive, postage is from US...postage is at least au$50 a bottle, but still cheaper than from the UK...love that cheap dollar..
edit 23/07/08 - The Pyrat XO has reached australia, retailing at $72
