I stumbled upon this Scotch Whisky Nosing Kit and I was wondering if anyone has any experience in these kind of things or knowledge if they are actually useful.
The Scotch Whisky Aroma Nosing Kit contains 24 aroma nosing samples carefully selected by the leading specialist Aroma Scientist, George Dodd, in conjunction with ScotchWhisky.net

This superb kit includes a booklet guide to not only “lead you through” the individual aroma samples but also through a recommended process for scotch whisky nosing and tasting!

So, if you have you ever wanted to know how best to nose scotch whisky and have ever wanted to know what the experts mean by a
  • Green/Grassy aroma
  • Malty aroma
  • Spicy aroma
  • Floral aroma
  • Woody aroma
  • Citrus aroma
  • Phenolic aroma
  • Peaty aroma
then, the Scotch Whisky Aroma Nosing Kit has the answers you have been looking for – and lots more!
I think these aromas could be useful to a reviewer like me but the price of this kit is a bit salty however, £119. Is this really worth the price or is a man better off just spending it to scotch whisky instead?

well, if you ask me, the money would be better off spent on minatures rather than just some bottled aromas! Must be a market for it though!

You're probably right. Probably the best strategy to develop your nose would be to buy specific whiskies, one that has lots of peat one that has lots of floral notes et cetera. That way you would probably easier recognize them in other whiskies. So tell me, what is a whisky with lots of peat?

Highland Park has a mild well rounded peat flavour (one of my personal favorites too!), though peaty flavours do dominate a lot of the island distilleries particularly the Islay Malt whisky's, I'd recommend trying the Bowmore and/or Laphroaig
