Bushmills 1608

I recently chatted with the owner of a new irish pub in my neighborhood. He had an unopened bottle of 1608, and he was from my old neighborhood back in the Bronx. When two people from the same neighborhood run into each other 2,000 miles from home, it's cause for celebration, so I bought the entire bottle and we drank and reminisced.

Has anyone ever tried the 1608? It is absolutely sublime, and it is, without a doubt, the finest irish Whiskey I have ever had. I know this sounds strange when applied to a liquid, but the 1608 absolutely melts in your mouth. The honey, the vanilla, it's all there and no one taste overpowers the other, it's art in a bottle.

No but I do like Irish Whiskey and you have convinced me to try and get one. I have not infact tried any whiskies from Bushmills, how does it compare to say the Black Bush or others?

I've never met a glass of Bushmills that I didn't like, before the 1608, Black Bush was my favorite, neck and neck with Jameson 12 year. I guess the biggest diffeence between a bottle of Black Bush and the 1608 is the taste, with the 1608, it leaps out at you, evenly, stays with you, and then fades. With the Black Bush, the taste is there, but nowhere near as pronounced or balanced, which is strange when talking about Black Bush, because it's a great Whiskey.

I couldn't find any 1608 but I found a 16 year old single malt at the tax free in London airport today.

The 1608 is hard to beat. But if you're in the mood to do some taste testing, put the Jamesons Redbreast up against all the good Irish Whisky's. The aging in the olorosso sherry and bourbon casks make this a whisky [not whiskey] to contend with.
