This was a new whiksey for me in not only the sense that I have never tasted this particular one before, but I was also an Islay Isle virgin.
I normally like to take my whiskey with a couple of ice cubes, but the taste of this stuff is so awesome I dont want it watered down. I have taken to using these plastic ice cubes to chill it, which I previously thought to be an absolutely stupid idea.
The taste itself is very crisp spring water with very strong peaty tones. I recommend it to anyone, though if I recall right, our dear host Count Silvio is not too keen on smokey/peaty whiskeys.
This is quite possibly my new favourite whiskey

I've had a few glasses of Laphroaig in bars on occasion. It is a favorite of my Irish friend, yet I have always found it to be too smoky for my liking. However, I am unsure as to which Laphroaig I have had exactly.

In a bar I would guess its the same stuff that I have right now.

The normal 10-yo Laphroaig is good stuff indeed. I like to add just a drop or two of water to release even more flavour. Recently I ordered a bottle of their Quarter Cask which is a rather nice acquaintance. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who hasn't had an Islay malt before due to the peaty kick it has but after a few sips it gets really interesting.
For the uninitiated: the quarter cask has been aged in smaller barrels and the distillery has skipped the chill filtering phase.

And therefore I conclude that Carthage must be destroyed.

Quarter Cask is nice stuff despite the smokiness Señor Pablo mentioned I don't like. If I recall correctly the 10 year old was smokier than the Quarter Cask.

Laphroaig is one of my favourites. Liquid smoke. Needless to say it goes hand in hand with a nice cigar.
I remember the first time I ordered it; I had no idea how to pronounce the name. The waiter corrected me somewhat smugly.
The next time I returned to that establishment I ordered the same, this time knowing what I was talking about, however I found that my waiter on this occasion didn't know his ass from his elbow let alone his Whisky from his Whiskey.
"A Laphroaig please"
"A what?"
"Laphroaig"
"Luhhh... ?"
"Laphroaig. It's a single malt scotch. You have it."
"Oh scotch! Just anything?"
"Pardon?"
"Do you want any particular kind or anything?"

I had the pleasure of enjoying a bottle of the 30-year-old that my father had purchased on a whim several years prior. It was quite fine, very smoky and peaty but exceptionally smooth and profound. It has been my experience that these qualities as well as the aforementioned 'smoky' influence that many find discomfiting tends to be less agressive in a bottle of this calibre.

I hope you arranged for the philistine to be shot.

One shouldn't waste a good bullet.

I'd have hardly considered it a waste. In fact I'd suggest that one could fire several times in this circumstance and justify the cost.

Of the rich Islay whiskies I prefer the Lagavulin to the Laphroaig. The phenols are a bit more balanced. Octomore is scheduled to have double the phenols of even these.

For a more gentle introduction to the peaty delights of the Islay Malts one should look out for Bunnahabhain a very lightly peated malt and a great intro to the Islay range of malts.

I was at a wedding in NYC a few years back, the only - and I mean only drink available at the open bar, was the Laphroaig Cask Strength. It's probably my favorite Single Malt, and I know there are a lot more heavy hitters out there, but that Laphroaig, combined with the magic of that night, carries with it a lot more than just the alcohol itself, now, there are memories in every new bottle. It takes me right back, and I couldn't be any more grateful.

I have purchased some of this product today, along with some Jameson and some Black Bush.
