Nearly fifty years after the end of the Royal Navy rum ration, independent spirits bottler Elixir Distillers launches Black Tot 40 Year Old, a 100% demerara rum, the very style of rum that would have made the heart of the daily ration once enjoyed by our naval servicemen.
St. Lucia Distillers was recently sold to a French owned company Groupe Bernard Hayot and since their acquisition there have been talk about the future of St. Lucia Rums and which direction they would be steered in under the new management. One of the most interesting changes will be the 1931 range, which will now be sold under the Chairman's range of rums as "Chairman's Reserve 1931." Currently there are 6 editions available of the old 1931 editions, and it is advised rum enthusiasts and collectors should grab them while they last.

Maison Ferrand is the owner of the Plantation rum brand with global distribution in 68 countries. The company produces Cognac and gin at its facility in Cognac, France and the purchase of West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) marks the first distillery acquisition outside of France. The acquisition signifies Maison Ferrand's long term commitment to the quality production of Plantation rum.

Archie Rose, a distillery in Alexandria NSW is the latest to be releasing their own Pure Single Rum Sugar Cane Spirit made of freshly pressed and locally produced sugar cane juice.

the sydney rum club made a much anticipated return last Monday, at Surry Hills' latest Caribbean restaurant and rum bar Jonkanoo, featuring a tasting of the full line of Mount Gay rums including their latest release, Mount Gay Black Barrel.
Black Barrel was launched in Australia around this time last year and to some of my international friends' dismay, only recently in the UK.
next stop, moscow! Tuesday March 4 at The Mint aka the Rum Hospital Fred Siggins of Black Pearl took home the crown at the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition National Finals with his Empire of Dreams cocktail.
A combination of Bacardi Superior Rum, pineapple juice, apricot brandy, Crawley's orgeat syrup and fresh lime juice shaken over fresh coffee beans. A delicious concoction indeed.
